it really was so funny ygo would keep trying to push this theme of like, remember winning isn’t everything! it’s okay to lose! while simultaneously making the consequences for losing like, death and torture and complete life ruination.
like poor kaiba like the vast majority of his experiences there did not disprove gozaburo. he very much did die after losing. a few times, even.
Sometimes it really does get me. The very last living villager of Kul Elna was murdered in the same place as his predecessors by the son of the king who reigned over the massacre. Children repeating and re-enacting, in small-scale, the violence of their parents and the state that raised them.
As an addendum I think it makes a lot of sense if Set was wrong, and Kisara’s power had nothing to do with hatred, it’s that she’s just so tenacious that they can leave her in the desert to starve for days and throw rocks at her and she simply refuses to die. Consider that A) an ultra-powerful Ka that only shows up to protect your unconscious body is really good for self-preservation, and not much else, B) bewd as a symbol of raw determination goes really well with…everything about Kaiba’s character arc, and C) she did, through him, in a lot of ways, manage to never die.
Anyway that’s my Kisara personality hc. She’s not secretly full of loathing or anything. She’s a very nice girl who simply cannot be stopped. Kisara The Relentless. Kisara The Unyielding. Kisara The Implacable.
My problem with Set/Kisara is that it’s that she’s just sad delicate waif with no opinions or real agency whereas if past-life-Kaiba is going to date an ultra-powerful dragon woman the dynamic should be specifically this post
I think for a character who possessed the spirit of one the most powerful and iconic monsters in the series, Kisara should have been allowed to enact a little vengeance and violence…as a treat

I think my favorite thing to tell people with only a passing familiarity with yugioh is that Yugi is older than Kaiba. The incredulity. It’s so fucking funny. And after they calm down you specify that it’s only by a couple of months. And it doesn’t make it better for them

This post is about the constant 1-dimensional characterization that happens to women characters in fandom when they are not cute or nice. The last part especially is complaining about how once these women are made Mean Lesbians they are characterized entirely though their “endearingly rude” support of a relationship between two men.
